Occupational Stress
OCCUPATIONAL STRESS
Stress-related sickness is reportedly a major cause of absence for UK business causing significant loss of productivity and disruption.  Staff do not have to be absent for your business to suffer lack of productivity - lack of concentration in the workplace and losso f commitment has an impact on performance.

Assessing the risk of employees developing work-related stress is a requirement under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations.  Employers have to consider the ramifications of occupational stress and conduct risk assessments - it clearly makes good business sense to look after your employees, to try to understand the issues that may be affecting them in the workplace, and to offer a positive response.

This work may be within the scope of your existing HR team, but consideration should be given to whether commissioning an external consultancy to carry out risk assessments would be beneficial.  The advantage of an external review provided by experienced and professionally qualified specialists such as ourselves is the opportunity for a consistent and systematic examination of the issues.  We will focus on the issue of risk assessment as it impacts within your organisations culture from an objective viewpoint and will be able to complete the work in a time bounded and cost effective manner.

Working with you, we will look at organisational culture, sickness absence, bullying and harassment, working environment and individual workloads.  We will then offer comprehensive advice and recommendations and work with you to address areas of concern.  This may include adapting our stress management workshops to address the issues specific to your organisation, conducting individual assessments on behalf of HR or occupational health departments, making referrals for individuals should further interventions such as stress counselling be required.  On a strategic level, we will work with you to change attitudes or working practices across your company.  Whatever our recommendations and advice, our main aim will always be to reduce stress related sickness and increase efficiency and productivity.
